Antique Bohemian Art Glass Vase Raised Gold Gilt Enamel Quatrefoil Bubbles 7 In

Held to the light, this one gives up its secret: the bubbles were put there on purpose. A small hand-blown Bohemian cabinet vase of quatrefoil form — four soft lobes rising to a scalloped, gilt-edged rim. The clear body is worked with evenly distributed controlled bubbles, a deliberate decorative technique rather than a manufacturing flaw. Two bands of rococo acanthus scrollwork are applied in heavy raised paste gold over a grey-toned platinum enamel shadow layer, with fine gilt tendrils trailing down the panels. The base is a molded quatrefoil. The vase is unmarked. Form, technique, and the gold-with-platinum decoration are consistent with the Karlsbad workshops of the 1880s to 1900s, and comparable quatrefoil vases with raised paste gold are attributed to Moser and its contemporaries. No maker attribution is claimed here — Moser's techniques were widely used by neighboring Bohemian houses, and without a mark this can only be described as Bohemian. Measurements: 7 in. tall, 2 1/4 in. across the widest lobes, 2 in. base, 8 oz. Condition: Very Good. Light wear and thinning to the raised gold on the high points, darkening to the platinum enamel consistent with age, light rubbing to the gilt rim band. Fine linear surface lines are present in the glass near the rim on two lobes, felt by fingernail on the exterior only and not through the interior wall.
