Dance
Painting expresses color, Music expresses sound, Dance expresses movement, and Poetry expresses contemplation, each by the pose of a woman and flowers, representing the characteristics of the four arts. The design and color scheme are common, but the Q-shaped composition gives movement to the screen and makes each work unique.
Symbolic representation of the four or three arts has been practiced since the Renaissance or even earlier. A characteristic of Mucha's Four Arts series is the inclusion of Dance. There are no strict rules for choosing artistic genres, but while sculpture is often included alongside poetry, painting, and music, dance is unusual.
