A striking Melissa Shirley Designs hand-painted needlepoint canvas featuring a large dragonfly rendered in warm, earthy shades of brown, taupe, cream and black against a rich golden background. An elaborate leafy border in coordinating gold, olive and russet tones gives the design the appearance of a beautifully framed natural-history illustration.  The canvas retains its original Melissa Shirley Designs website label. The former website printed on the label is now defunct, and I was unable to locate this exact design in the current Melissa Shirley catalog, making this an especially interesting find for collectors of older or discontinued Melissa Shirley canvases.
