Hand-drawn nude figure sketch by Iwao Furusawa (framed)
This is an original nude figure sketch by the late Iwaomi Furusawa (1912-2000). It is framed and comes in its original box.
Iwaomi Furusawa was a Western-style painter and avant-garde artist, known as the Dali of Japan for his pioneering work in Japanese Surrealism and avant-garde art. Nude figures, depicted with soft curves and delicate touches, were his signature theme.
As seen in image 2, the sketch features a unique signature and a symbol believed to be the year of creation: LXXIX in Roman numerals, where L=50, X=10, and I=1.
LXX = 50 + 10 + 10 = 70, IX = 10 - 1 = 9, making it 1979 (Showa 54), when he was 67 years old, approximately half a century ago.
It was stored in its original box at home, but the provenance is unknown.
The original box bears the name Art Sha Publishing (image 3). A sticker on the box (image 4) has a date stamp from Showa 54, which is the year of creation for the sketch.
Art Sha (Publishing) appears to be an art-related company, but it is unclear if they were also an art dealer, or if the purchaser indicated on the sticker was a painting retailer.
The sketch itself is from 1979, approximately 50 years ago. While not prominent, the frame and glass surface show signs of age-appropriate dirt and minor scratches. There is also a tear on the back of the frame (images 13, 16), which is not noticeable from the front.
Approximate dimensions (cm) are as follows:
[Frame]
Height 51, Width 37.5, Depth 2.5 /
[Glass Surface]
Height 48, Width 34.5 /
[Sketch]
Height 35, Width 24 /
[Original Box]
Height 52, Width 38, Depth 3.5 /
This is an original nude figure sketch (framed) by the late Iwaomi Furusawa, a Western-style painter and avant-garde artist, created approximately half a century ago. As a work of art, obscuring it with bokeh or other effects would be disrespectful to both the artist and the work. Your understanding is appreciated.
Suitable for collection or as a decorative piece for your space.
[For reference]
For example, numbers 1 to 15 are expressed in Roman numerals using I, V=5, and X as follows:
1=I, 2=II, 3=III /
4=IV, 5=V, 6=VI /
7=VII, 8=VIII /
9=IX, 10=X, 11=XI /
12=XII, 13=XIII /
14=XIV, 15=XV /
On watch faces with Roman numerals, 4 is often represented as IIII. There seems to be a reason for this. Those interested are encouraged to research it.
