Description
Cat Anka (Heated Foot Warmer) - Tabletop Kotatsu (without Hibachi)
This item was found under the floor of a temple. It appears to be old, but there are no major chips.
The hibachi (charcoal brazier) was not found.
The entire item has been cleaned.
Size: 25cm (length) x 25cm (width) x 28cm (height)
Made of tile clay
This is a bandoko (foot warmer), a tool used for warmth by placing charcoal inside, similar to a hibachi, during the Meiji and Taisho periods.
It seems people would drape a futon over this to keep warm.
