Antique Belgian Bruges Floral Bobbin Lace Linen Doily

An antique from Belgium around the 19th century.
An elegant and authentic Bruges bobbin lace oval doily.

Bobbin lace with a floral motif, scattered with flowers resembling daisies, such as trefoils, quatrefoils, and rosettes.
The leaves may also resemble knight's crests.
Soft curves, with small flowers, stems, and leaves gently curled, express a graceful form.
The trim is a scallop with picot embroidery resembling multi-petaled flowers.

The ivory/ecru color, close to the original linen color, exudes a classical and natural atmosphere.
Delicately and airily woven with medium-fine linen thread, it gives a refreshing impression and a sense of relaxation.

It has a gentle expression, with no harsh outlines, but with openwork in the petals and veins, and the gaps between motifs connected by a net-like bridge.
The stitches are not tight, with a moderate coolness, almost like half-stitch.

The center of the flowers is decorated with small spider stitches and fancy filling stitches.

An elegant, milky ivory that brings a smile when held in your hand.
It may have been washed, but it does not appear to have undergone harsh bleaching, so it is likely close to its original condition.

Lightweight and smooth, yet with body and firmness, it has a soft and gentle appearance.
Likely made of natural linen, or a linen and cotton blend.

It is in beautiful condition with no noticeable stains, discoloration, or scratches. However, there is a light brown discoloration on the cluster in the center of the flower, resembling a scuff mark from wooden furniture.
Additionally, there are some areas where the edge finishing has come undone, with threads or lace frames detached from the frame.

As an old handmade antique piece, I believe it is in good condition, but please view the images and forgive any minor imperfections.

Bruges, the city of water.
It evokes the image of the green trees lining the canals of the ancient city.

Its large size makes it a striking centerpiece for a table, or for display on a chest or cabinet.
It would also be lovely under a large bisque doll or a tea set.
It would also be a wonderful addition to an entryway.

Delicate and textured, unlike machine-made items.
It would also be beautiful framed.
