Vintage Mahogany Tea Caddy Colonial Williamsburg Style Octagonal Brass Handle

Handsome vintage mahogany tea caddy in the Colonial Williamsburg style, octagonal in form with a stepped molded base, canted sides and a faceted hinged lid. The lid is fitted with an oval Hepplewhite-style brass bail handle on a beaded backplate, and a swing-hook brass latch secures the front. The warm reddish-brown mahogany shows attractive figure and a contrasting inlaid stringing band across the lid. The interior is lined in foil throughout, the traditional method of keeping tea dry and aromatic. A handsome piece for a tea collector, a Colonial or Federal revival interior, or a desk or vanity box.  CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. No cracks, splits or veneer loss. Hinge and latch operate smoothly. Minor surface marks consistent with age and light use. Foil lining intact.
