Vintage Wedgwood Mother Plate • Black Basalt Jasperware Gold Relief
Wedgwood
Vintage Wedgwood Mother decorative plate, made in England and dating approximately to the 1970s. The matte black stoneware features a finely modeled Neoclassical relief of a seated mother reaching toward a winged cherub, with Mother molded into the cartouche below. A delicate gilt foliate wreath surrounds the central scene, providing a beautiful contrast against the subtle black-on-black relief. The reverse bears the impressed WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND mark. The dark matte body is characteristic of Wedgwood black basalt and is also frequently described by collectors as black Jasperware. An attractive piece for a Wedgwood collection, gallery wall, cabinet display, or collection of Neoclassical English ceramics. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Light surface wear and minor marks consistent with age, including a small light mark near the edge on the reverse. Gilt decoration remains bright and attractive. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Please review photos carefully.
