Wonderful matched pair of 1930s Illustrated Editions Company hardcovers, both featuring decorative cloth bindings with gilt embellishment, red spine labels and period illustrations. Included: Aphrodite (Ancient Manners) by Pierre Louÿs English version by Willis L. Parker Illustrated by Frank J. Buttera Illustrated Editions Company, New York Circa 1932 Chinese Love Tales Translated from the original of George Soulié de Morant Illustrated by noted artist Valenti Angelo Illustrated Editions Company, New York Circa 1935 Chinese Love Tales has an interesting censorship history and notes inside that it was previously published as Eastern Shame Girl and was challenged in court. Both books contain numerous period black-and-white illustrations and have attractive coordinating decorative bindings—wonderful displayed together on a shelf. Good vintage condition with expected age and shelf wear. Pages and endpapers show age toning/discoloration as pictured. No dust jackets. Please review photos carefully for condition. Sold together as a set of two. Great for a vintage book collection, decorative library, 1930s literature collection, illustrated-book collection or display.
