Lewis Chessmen Chess Piece Resin Replica - British Museum

This is an early official replica, directly purchased by my father at the British Museum in the early 1980s. It has a more substantial feel than current products and is a valuable vintage item that showcases the meticulous craftsmanship of that era. The aging and scratches are also part of the reproduction. It has been stored long-term in its box at home.

Includes the official guidebook Lewis Chessmen (published in 1978, by Michael Taylor). British Museum Publications Limited, 20 pages including the cover. This is a valuable resource that details the history and excavation mysteries of these pieces, and is valuable in itself.

Box dimensions: 50cm x 29cm x 5cm

Piece dimensions: (King) Height 10cm x Width 5cm x Depth 3cm
(Other pieces are slightly smaller. Please refer to the photos for comparison.)

Color: Ivory

Material: Resin or Polystone/Stone Powder Mixed Resin
(While the material is not specified, early replicas from the 1980s are highly likely to be made of stone powder mixed resin, and are said to have a better atmosphere than current replicas.)

About the Lewis Chessmen:
Created in the 12th century and miraculously discovered on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1831, these are the world's most famous chess pieces. They are also famous as the model for the wizard's chess featured in the movie Harry Potter.

Reading the booklet while touching the texture of the pieces will surely spark your imagination about history. This is a tasteful replica that would also be enjoyable as a display piece.
