Okinawa Sanshin with reinforced skin and case
This is a beginner-friendly, reinforced skin Okinawan sanshin made by Navi Sanshin.
There are three main types of sanshin skins: genuine leather, reinforced (double-layered) skin, and synthetic skin.
Genuine leather is made from real snake skin, synthetic skin is a sheet made of synthetic fibers like nylon, and reinforced skin has a double-layered structure where a synthetic fiber sheet is bonded to genuine leather.
Genuine leather is said to have the best sound quality, but it is easily torn and needs to be replaced every few years. Synthetic skin is tear-resistant and can be used almost semi-permanently, with various designs other than snake patterns available, but its sound quality differs significantly from genuine leather.
Reinforced skin has a sound quality close to genuine leather and durability comparable to synthetic skin, and its appearance is almost indistinguishable from genuine leather.
Although it was a technology developed by the Iketake-tou Aragaki Sanshin store, many workshops now produce reinforced skin sanshin.
This sanshin was made by Navi Sanshin, located in an alley off Kokusai Dori in Naha. I purchased it used as a secondary sanshin, but I am selling it because I have acquired a new sanshin.
Beginner-friendly means that general-purpose materials were used, and it is not a short-necked type, and the craftsmanship is not poor.
It produces a soft and clear sound, the karakui are in good condition, and the chindami is easy to tune and resistant to going out of tune.
There are some minor scale peeling marks in inconspicuous areas, but no other noticeable scratches.
The skin is yellowish; it is unclear whether this is from the beginning or due to age.
As a non-expert judgment, the overall condition is good, but it is visibly an old instrument.
Please purchase with the understanding of the above.
Includes a soft case, bachi (plectrum), a mute-uma (bridge), and a ten-cover.
(Everything shown in the second photo is included; the stand is for photography purposes and is not included.)
The soft case is a slim, slightly older model, but it is a type that can be worn on the back.
The bachi (tsume) is a standard size, approximately 6.7 cm in height.
Will be shipped via 140-size Takkyubin (delivery service).
* I am also listing a DVD on how to play, musical scores (kunkunshi), and Okinawan folk song CDs, so please take a look.
