The name is derived from the queen chosen from village girls during the medieval May Day village festival, but it is forgotten in its home country as it is not superior in taste, yield, or resistance to pests and diseases.
Due to its high adaptability to the Japanese environment, it was certified as a superior variety in Hokkaido along with Baron potato in 1928 (Showa 3). It is currently the second most produced variety after Baron potato. It was not highly regarded before the war, and during the war, it was unified with Baron potato due to food rationing.
