This is a type of edible ground cherry. The calyx grows into a sac-like shape, enclosing the fruit within. After midsummer, the calyx turns brown, and the spherical fruit inside ripens to a yellow color, offering a refreshing sweet and sour taste. The fruit is primarily eaten fresh, but can also be enjoyed pickled in sugar or vinegar.

Edible ground cherries are rarely found in markets, so please try growing them yourself!
