A plant belonging to the Lemnaceae family.
This species was previously common in slow-moving waters such as rice paddies during the summer. It is a familiar type of duckweed with simple, round leaves and thin roots that dangle below. The surface of the leaves is green, but the underside is reddish-brown. The red color becomes more intense with stronger light.
They inhabit rice paddies, small streams, and ponds where there is little current, often living alongside other duckweed species like *Spirodela polyrhiza*. It is not common to see them growing in large numbers by themselves.
They are also suitable for outdoor cultivation in biotopes and ponds. By continuously exposing them to strong light, they can reproduce asexually, multiplying into more duckweed plants of the same appearance.
