This filter media utilizes the innovative water treatment technology known as Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR). By suspending the media in water and keeping it in constant motion, a biofilm of bacteria naturally forms on its surface, efficiently breaking down harmful substances like ammonia, nitrite, and organic matter in the aquarium water.

By allowing the media to float in the water using a pump or aeration, the entire surface area where bacteria reside is constantly in contact with the water.
