Description
Hand-dyed genuine indigo-dyed cotton tablecloth, 100% cotton, approximately 145 x 160 cm.
It is tagged with what appears to be the registered trademark Yusoku (see photo 4).
Yusoku is read as yuusoku and appears to be a major in-house brand of Sanyo Shokai Co., Ltd., established in 1948 in Kyoto, which manufactures and sells traditional furoshiki (wrapping cloths) and Japanese clothing accessories.

Yusoku refers to knowledge of ancient customs and systems, such as the official positions, ceremonies, clothing, attire, and practices of the imperial court, nobility, and samurai families, as well as that knowledge itself. The character shoku (職) in yushoku (有識), meaning knowledgeable, came to be written as shoku (職). Yusoku patterns (有職文様) are elegant woven patterns that were used to decorate the formal attire of Heian nobles, such as the sokutai and junihitoe, as well as furnishings. Even today, they are often seen on formal kimonos as elegant and auspicious patterns.
Hon-aizome (本藍染) is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique using sukumo (蒅), a dye made from fermented leaves of Awa-ai (阿波藍) from Tokushima Prefecture, and mokuaoku (木灰汁), wood ash lye, as the only ingredients. It is characterized by natural ash fermentation without the use of any chemical agents, and is known as high-quality Japan Blue with its deep color and antibacterial and deodorizing properties.

This item was unused and stored away. For this listing, the tablecloth was taken out for photography and inspected for any damage, but no issues were found. The dedicated box measures approximately 39 x 24 x 4 cm.
