There was a wonderful, locally rooted bookstore called Kaibundo Shoten in Motomachi, Kobe. It had the best selection of maritime books in Japan, but due to poor sales, it closed its doors on September 30, 2013.
This listing is for various ship interior signage plates that were acquired from the maritime book section of the now-defunct Kaibundo Shoten. The set includes six types: Gymnasium (Gimnasium), Exit (EXIT), Lavatory (Lavatory), Hot Water/Fresh Water (HOT.W?FRESH.W), Life Jacket (LIFE JACKET), and Directional Arrow (fluorescent arrow).
These signs were spares (dead stock) intended for use on large passenger ships. As ship parts like these have become difficult to obtain in Japan due to the outsourcing of ship scrapping to countries with lower labor costs like India and Bangladesh, these items are now rare.
We would like to offer these to someone who can appreciate the romance of such items.
