I used this to make costumes out of colored plastic sheeting for a daycare. It gets quite hot.
It shows signs of use, but the roller on the tip turns without any issues.
You can bond colored plastic sheeting by laying down a thick layer of newspaper. Be careful, as touching the plastic with anything other than the roller will create holes.
