441 Men's Summer Kimono

This is a hemp (joufu) kimono in an aisumi-cha color, a shade of indigo-tinged ink, slightly darkened.

Joufu refers to high-quality hemp fabric. We believe this is likely Noto Joufu.

Joufu is said to be a superior hemp fabric made by plain weaving fine hemp threads (from cannabis and ramie). However, the details of this kimono's material are unknown, so we will list it as hemp.

As there is no trademark, the product name, origin, and material information are based on our best estimation.

Although it is a plain weave and not a leno weave gauze, when you zoom in on the photos, you can see many gaps in the fabric (photos 7 & 8).
Because the weaving method creates gaps with hemp threads, the fabric is highly breathable, does not stick to the skin, and offers a crisp, cool feel, making it suitable for Japan's hot and humid summers.

The fabric has a rather stiff texture, and due to the firmness of the fibers, it has a moderate crispness and a pleasant texture.

Furthermore, compared to summer kimono made with leno weave like ro or sha, this hemp kimono has a smoother feel that doesn't cling, and it also appears cooler visually.

As this is a summer kimono, we feel that making it too long might feel stuffy, so a slightly shorter length might be preferable.

There is a stain on the lower back hem (photos 4, 9-11, 14).

Although this kimono has minor imperfections, men's hemp garments like this are extremely rare.
