Excellent Condition Tonbi Coat Inverness Coat Double-Breasted Real Fur Osamu Dazai

This is a Japanese vintage tonbi coat from the early Showa period.
Both the outer and inner fabrics are in excellent condition with no moth holes or tears.
The tailor's tag is missing, and some buttons are slightly dull, but overall it is in beautiful condition, rarely seen for its age.

The exact era is unknown, but it is a very old tonbi coat from the Taisho Roman or Showa period. It is a uniquely Japanese coat that was widely worn when traditional Japanese clothing was still commonplace.

It is a style that Osamu Dazai was fond of and wore, as described in his works where it was secretly procured for him by a servant of his estranged family. As a fan of his works, I also own it.

This particular coat is even more luxurious and rare than the standard version, as it features a real fur collar. Like Osamu Dazai, it was a high-quality item that only the aristocracy of the time could afford to have tailored.

While it can be worn over traditional Japanese attire, it is an Inverness coat, a type of regular coat, so it can surprisingly be worn without feeling out of place with Western clothing.
Furthermore, the fur collar adds a more casual element, making it easier to wear.
I myself have enjoyed wearing a tonbi coat while taking a Dazai-themed walk in Mitaka.
