The slender black lacquered wooden handle features a rattan wrap on the grip and a metal ferrule. Furthermore, beautiful silk thread decorations are applied inside the umbrella to enhance its design.

Janome literally means a round ring motif like a snake's eye. It is a design inspired by snakes, which have been believed since ancient times to be messengers of the gods and possess protective powers against evil. Currently, umbrellas without patterns are also called Janome-gasa. To distinguish them from plain ones, umbrellas with colored Japanese paper and white Japanese paper layered to create a round pattern are called Nakairi.
