⚫️ Antique - Vintage - Victoria Era Tankard - Stamped VR 239 LLC PINT - Rare

This is a beautiful piece of London history & is estimated to be over 100 years old making it an Antique. Let me explain my research. The markings on this Pewter Tankard date this piece from somewhere between 1891 & 1901, here’s why. The LCC stands for London County Council which began verification in 1889. The district code 239 was issued in 1891. The Monarch’s Mark, the Crown is flanked by a V & R for Victoria Regina or Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria passed away in January 1901. This all points to a time frame of a short 10 year period in which this PINT Tankard would have been crafted in London & used in a local pub. A few other points of interest regarding this highly Collectible beer tankard. It’s crafted in a thick metal, a pewter which would have also had some lead & tin in it to give it the heavy application they wanted at the time. These mugs had to be able to withstand daily use, a rowdy pub environment & countless washings. The pewter & other metals from this not only gave the tankard a greater heft feel to it but also a darker patina color than on what’s made today. A final note, the front also has some engraved letters, very well done, but hard to be 100% clear, but they may have been for the Pub name to prevent theft by patrons or other pubs at the time.
