A monopod is a piece of photography equipment with a single extendable pipe beneath the mount or base that supports the camera. It is used to reduce camera shake or support heavy telephoto lenses. Unlike a tripod, it does not have a base that stands on its own, so the photographer must hold and support the camera and monopod themselves.

In terms of reducing shake, it is effective when shooting in low light conditions with a slow shutter speed, or when significantly reducing the increased shake from telephoto lenses compared to handheld shooting. Additionally, monopods do not require as much space to set up as tripods, making them excellent for quick shots in urban environments or spontaneous photography.
