Set 4 Vintage Japan Lusterware Fragonard Demitasse Cups Saucers Purple Gold

Set of 4 vintage Japanese lusterware demitasse cups and saucers with pearlescent purple and blue iridescent glaze and central Fragonard-style courting couple transfer print in a gilt cartouche. Gold cup handles and gilt saucer rims. Backstamp: Made in Japan. Iridescent lusterware demitasse sets came out of postwar Japan in massive numbers, made in Nagoya and Yokohama porcelain workshops for the American export market from the late 1940s through the 60s. The romantic courting-couple transfer references Jean-Honore Fragonard, the 18th century French rococo painter whose garden-swing paintings decorators loved in the postwar years. Full set of 4 cups and 4 saucers, crisp lustre glaze and gold trim intact.
