Libra Isis 1960s Drafting Table
Libra Isis Drafting Table from the 1960s
Purchased during a trip to Switzerland in 2017. At the time, it cost ¥830,000, and significant shipping fees were incurred for transport to Tokyo, taking a considerable amount of time to arrive. This drafting table is extremely heavy, likely weighing around 0.6 tons.
Acquired from an antique furniture store in Basel, Switzerland, this drafting table is fascinating and fully mechanical, allowing for adjustments to any angle. In the era before computer-aided design, designers and architects used desks like this. The top features a coordinate system for positioning, a very clever design. It has never been actually used, and there are some items I've attached to the drafting board myself, which are removable.
This drafting table was manufactured by the Italian brand Libra. This brand was established in the 1960s and specialized in producing high-quality design and furniture. The Isis drafting table was very popular from the 1970s to the 1980s, and its simple yet functional design was highly regarded by designers and artists.
