As I also practice martial arts and am a fan of combat sports, I was able to watch almost all of these matches when they were broadcast on television.
The battles introduced here possess the excitement of a serious contest with rules.
I was particularly on the edge of my seat cheering for Inoki's mixed martial arts battles.
As a fan of Antonio Inoki, I wanted him to win! But I also didn't want him to lose to a martial artist! I watched with these conflicting emotions.
Although there was much criticism in the media after the matches against Willie Williams of Kyokushin Karate and Muhammad Ali, the heavyweight boxing champion, I believe that in a serious contest with rules, Antonio Inoki's leg kicks and grappling attacks were serious attempts to win by following the rules.
The rules were also disadvantageous to Inoki.
I am very grateful to Antonio Inoki for agreeing to these disadvantageous rules, making the matches happen, and allowing fans across Japan to watch and feel passionate.
Watching this DVD again, I am once again deeply impressed by Antonio Inoki's greatness as a fighter.
I believe these are combat sports matches that should be passed down to future generations.
