Description
This is a two-piece Etsu-fundoshi loincloth set, one made of white bleached cotton and the other of bleached cotton dyed red, creating a red and white combination. The front flap is cut slightly shorter. The red dye used is not an azo dye (specific aromatic amine) that may produce carcinogens, so you can wear it with peace of mind.

[Caution] When you first use the red fundoshi, please wash it by hand separately for a while. After a few washes, the color will stop bleeding, and you can then wash it with other clothes.

● Vertical flap (Tatemitsu): Length 96cm, Width 30cm, with reinforced folded edges all around.
● Horizontal flap (Yokomitsu) (cord): Length 138cm, Width 2cm.
● Reinforced at the intersection of the vertical and horizontal flaps with a strong thread.
● Size after washing:
Vertical flap: Length 94cm, Width 30cm
Horizontal flap (cord): Length 136cm, Width 2cm
● The front flap is cut shorter to match Western clothing.
While a long front flap suits kimonos, with Western clothes, a long front flap can get tangled around the crotch and may protrude from shorts. A shorter front flap is more practical for modern wear, and the author finds it more stylish.
● The horizontal flap (cord) is nearly 140cm long, designed to fit even those with a larger build. The bleached cloth, 34cm wide, is divided into four equal parts, folded into quarters to form the cord, making it a sturdy tie. When tied below the navel by about 3cm (approx. 10cm) and passing over the top of the hip bones, as shown in the photo, it will not loosen.

[Reference] The Etsu-fundoshi, which Grandpa Wada has loved for over half a century, was invented in the Edo period. It was welcomed by Japanese men as ideal underwear for Japan's hot and humid climate and has survived for hundreds of years without falling out of fashion. The bleached cotton versions remain popular today, offering excellent breathability and moisture absorption, making them clean, simple, traditional health underwear. They are also recommended for those concerned about the tightness of elastic waistbands in pants and briefs or skin irritation from synthetic fabrics. Etsu-fundoshi, embodying the spirit of Japan, makes a great gift for birthdays, Father's Day, Respect for the Aged Day, and Kanreki (60th birthday) celebrations. They are also appreciated by people overseas suffering from the heat and humidity, who find them cool and healthy.

In response to fan requests, 72-year-old Grandpa Wada has personally crafted this red and white Etsu-fundoshi set, including one of his favorite white bleached Etsu-fundoshi and the newly released red bleached Etsu-fundoshi, each in a single piece. Named Koki (70th birthday), this set is made with wishes for the buyer's good health and happiness. It is particularly useful for Kanreki and Koki celebrations, and each piece is sewn with great care.
