This is an antique trunk. The interior and other parts are not in good condition, so we recommend it for interior decoration or display purposes.

The SM.S.&CO. marking on the trunk's hardware indicates it was supplied by one of the major manufacturers that supplied hardware to US trunk makers from around the 1880s to the 1910s, specializing in clasps and locks.
Trunks with this stamp are easily identifiable as antique (over 100 years old) and often feature high-quality brass or nickel plating.

The hardware on this trunk is brass and has the stamp. This item can be considered an antique.
